Aren't We Hypocrites?

When I was a kid, I had said to my sisters “I am never ever going to get married!” with such convinction that they were startled. I was quickly shushed with a curt “God forbid! Shut up your mouth!”. The reason why I had that fear of marriage then was because I had witnessed the slightly, and sometimes not so slight condescending way my father relates to my mother. Then I heard stories of other marriages from my sisters, gossiping away with teenage enthusiasim, unaware of the sharp young ears that quickly record just to digest the information gathered later.

Travelling to Lagos without preparing for any unforeseen happening is one of the biggest mistakes ever. That is what I did a few months back and it was an experience I wish never to repeat.

My firsts

Fried rice

The first time I saw fried rice, I was around seven years. It was at a celebration at my mum’s school where she was a vice-principal then. A feared and respected one. So naturally I was treated with caution and attention was paid to what I was given to eat by the teacher assigned to take care of me by my mum.

Family my foot! (2)

The day THE SHREW crossed the threshold of love to hate in my heart, I was looking for a memory card to use urgently, nobody was home that I could ask and my wicked brother has beaten it into me not to touch his things. So I was left with the option of searching THE SHREW's wardrobe. Remember, I was desperate, it is not as if I want to snoop deliberately.

Family My Foot!

Whoever said that blood is thicker than water never had my cousin as part of his family. She is the devil’s incarnate. She taught me, no, she reinforced my belief in the saying that there is a thin line between love and hate. I was home for one of my holidays away from school and I met her at home. She said she came to spend some of her holidays with us, she was a secondary school student then. We all loved her and since I am the last born, I took her as my younger sister. Her name is Yasmin, but for this post, I am going to refer to her henceforth as THE SHREW.
