You Change First!

Today, as I was typing on my laptop, I heard shouts outside

APC! CHANGE!

EIPISIIIIII! SHANGE!

Yes, you guessed right. I am at Ibadan.

I went out to find out what the shouting is all about and saw people jubilating and screaming like banshees.

Really? Do these people even truly understand what they are celebrating? Do they even have an idea of the person they are screaming about? Because they have been sprayed some measly cash before the campaign and they have been promised more, they feel it is time to celebrate? Or is it because APC is promising to sweep the nation free of corruption that they are celebrating the candidate that won?
Really, where is the sense in celebrating an entrance for a course when you have not even written the exams?

I even saw a kid in pants running alongside the adults on the streets screaming

“eeeeeeeh!  Eipisi ni joor! Eipisi ni jare!” (It’s APC!)

Thanks to social media, awareness for this year’s election is at all time high and people really turned up to exercise their right to vote. But one thing I notice with this governorship election is that the simple fact that APC won at the presidential level has dramatically increased the chances of the gubernatorial candidates for the party. People are not even considering whether or not the candidate is eligible, whether they are going to be truly deserving of the votes.

I have to commend Tinubu, the mastermind of APC, for choosing such an apt and powerful party slogan. He really knew what he was doing. Nigerians are so easily carried away by frivolities that give them 24 hours high.

I remember 2011, when Jonathan was campaigning on Facebook. Many were wild about him, but now…

Let us just wait for a year and see how it goes; let us see how well the “change ambassadors” pass their examinations.

Before you ask, I am not a member of PDP.

    1. @ olaoluwa, i do not believe in any party. i'd rather study all candidates and vote the one i believe is capable rather than follow the majority.

    1. No, it's not. i have nothing against Nigerians being heard. i'm just pointing out the fact that most nigerians tend to be carried away by inconsequential things rather than thinking deep before making their decision. now, this governorship election is a case of majority carries the vote. no be so?

  4. Hmm interesting! Ur post surely protraits ur unsupportive notion towards APC. U seem to have cleared ur intentions from the comments. We should be hopeful and prayerful, that CHANGE might just be around the corner.
